What you should know: The GM is responsible for the overall leadership, financial performance, and operational success of the Company, including retail stores, warehouse and distribution, and e-commerce. They will develop and execute strategies to drive sales growth, operational efficiency, profitability, employee performance, and customer experience. This is a highly visible, hands-on role requiring regular on-site presence at stores and the warehouse. The GM must lead from the sales floor, build strong relationships with managers and staff, and stay closely connected to daily operations, staffing, and customer experience. The role requires a strong passion for retail, solid retail management experience, and a sales- and customer-service mindset in a fast-paced environment. The GM leads all managers and staff, ensuring alignment across departments with Company values and goals to achieve sustainable profitability.
A day in the life:
Leadership & Strategy
- Provide overall leadership across all departments, stores, and warehouse operations.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies to drive growth and profitability.
- Set annual and monthly business objectives, budgets, financial targets, and KPIs by department and location.
- Build a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on accountability, standards, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Lead major initiatives including operational improvements, system implementations, store openings, relocations, and expansion projects.
Retail & Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations across retail stores, warehouse, distribution, and e-commerce fulfillment.
- Ensure high standards in customer service, merchandising, store presentation, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with Store Managers to optimize staffing, scheduling, training, and sales execution to ensure consistent customer experience.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs and theft, and improve service levels.
- Partner with Inventory Control to monitor inventory flow, logistics, and accuracy.
- Partner with the Director of HR & Operations to optimize staffing and scheduling across stores and warehouse.
Buying, Merchandising, Marketing & Inventory Control
- Partner with Buying, Merchandising, and Marketing teams to optimize assortment, pricing, margins, shipping costs, and promotions.
- Oversee inventory performance, including turns, aged inventory, margins, and stock levels.
- Participate in monthly open-to-buy and inventory planning to align purchasing with forecasts and business goals.
- Partner with Marketing to build annual promotional calendars to drive traffic and engagement.
- Oversee in-store, external, and e-commerce marketing to ensure brand consistency.
- Manage marketing budget and vendor co-op programs; ensure maximum ROI from promotions and campaigns.
- Support sales-driving initiatives across retail and e-commerce channels.
- Partner with Merchandising to optimize product presentation and store layout.
- Lead bi-annual company-wide inventory counts (January and July).
- Manage trade show planning and budget.
Financial Management
- Own overall financial performance including revenue, profitability, and expense management (payroll, marketing, occupancy, inventory, shipping, discounts, rebates, and co-op funds).
- Review financial statements, forecasts, and reports to drive decision-making.
- Monitor sales, margins, cash flow, labor costs, and key financial metrics.
- Maintain strong internal controls, fiscal accountability, and compliance.
- Review daily performance reporting and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Support annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and year-end audit processes.People Leadership & HR
- Lead, coach, and develop managers and department leaders.
- Partner with HR on recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and related areas.
- Support employee engagement and a positive workplace culture.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies.
- Participate in compensation and workforce planning with HR and the LOM.
Systems, Facilities, Leases & Risk Management
- Oversee POS, inventory, and e-commerce systems (with parent company support).
- Lead or support systems upgrades and technology initiatives.
- Manage facilities for stores and warehouse, including maintenance, HVAC, insurance, alarms, and vendors.
- Oversee lease administration including rent, occupancy costs, renewals, and landlord relationships.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations.
- Manage operational risk through controls, insurance, and compliance programs.
Key Performance Indicators (Success will be measured by):
- Sales growth across retail, e-commerce, and product categories
- Overall profitability, Gross margin and EBITDA performance

Work Environment / Schedule: This is a hands-on, on-site leadership role: The GM will spend at least 50% of time in operational environments (stores & warehouse) engaging with staff, observing operations, and providing coaching and training.
Training & Support: Parent company provides support in Accounting, Inventory Procurement, IT, Marketing, HR.
Your areas of knowledge and expertise:
- 7+ years of retail leadership experience, including operations and general management
- Strong understanding of retail operations and a passion for the industry
- Valid driver’s license
- Flexibility to work weekends, peak periods, and occasional extended hours
- Multi-location retail and e-commerce experience preferred
- Strong financial acumen (budgets and P&L ownership)
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive sales and operational excellence
Experience in:
- Buying, vendor negotiation, and product curation
- Inventory management, merchandising, and store layout optimization
- Retail marketing to drive traffic, engagement, and sales
- Experience with change management is an asset
- Knowledge of HR legislation (e.g., ADA, FMLA, Oregon Paid Leave) is an asset
- Strong communication and decision-making skills
