Job Highlights

What you should know: Mulberry is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit focused on homelessness prevention. They are seeking a strategic and relationship-oriented Director of Development to help shape the organization’s next chapter of growth and community impact.

This is not a traditional fundraising role; they are looking for a leader who can build authentic partnerships, strengthen donor engagement, diversify revenue streams, and help navigate an evolving nonprofit and funding landscape.

A day in the life

As a key member of the leadership team, you will:

  • Lead and execute a long-term fundraising and philanthropic engagement strategy
  • Cultivate major donors, institutional funders, corporate partners, and public-sector relationships
  • Strengthen cross-sector partnerships with foundations, elected officials, community organizations, and stakeholders
  • Help elevate organizational visibility, influence, and sustainability across the region
  • Partner closely with executive leadership, board members, and internal teams to foster a strong culture of philanthropy

The ideal candidate brings a combination of strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and strong relationship-building skills. This person understands how to connect mission to investment, inspire donor confidence, and translate community impact into meaningful engagement and long-term support.

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of nonprofit development or fundraising leadership experience required
  • Experience managing a development budget of $8M+ annually
  • Success leading strategic fundraising initiatives and achieving revenue goals
  • Experience working with public agencies, elected officials, or community coalitions
  • Background in social services, housing, behavioral health, or community-based nonprofits

What the recruiter wants to know

  • Have you driven YOY revenue growth via diversified development strategies?
  • How have you ID’d untapped funding strategies?
  • How do you strengthen donor retention?
  • How do you balance strategy with hands-on execution in a complex environment?
  • How do you navigate a diverse group of stakeholders?

Compensation and Benefits

This organization is deeply committed to supporting both its mission and its people. Benefits include:

• Generous PTO plus additional self-care leave

• Employer-paid health insurance and employer-funded HRA contributions

• 401(k) with employer match

• Employer-paid long-term disability coverage

• Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

• A collaborative, inclusive, and mission-centered culture where your work directly impacts the community
