What you should know: Our client, a well-established national nonprofit organization, is seeking an experienced Divisional Finance Director to provide financial leadership across a complex, mission-driven organization.
This is a highly visible leadership role with responsibility for the organization’s financial management, accounting, planning, reporting, budgeting, and fiscal controls across the Cascade region, covering Oregon and southern Idaho. Leading the Finance Department, the Director will partner closely with operational and field leaders to support sound financial decision-making across the organization.

The Divisional Finance Director will have a direct impact on the financial health of a nearly $50M operating budget and will partner with leaders across the organization to bring clarity, accountability, and sound financial stewardship to the work.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide divisional financial leadership
- Oversee accounting, financial management, planning, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls across 35 operating units
- Advise senior leadership on fiscal policy, financial management, and issues affecting organizational decision-making
- Ensure accounting practices are accurate, consistent, and compliant with GAAP, FASB requirements, organizational policies, and applicable funding requirements
- Lead and supervise the Finance Department while providing guidance and training to field-unit personnel
Partner with leaders across the organization
- Meet with divisional leaders to review financial performance, budgets, reserves, and other financial matters
- Translate financial data into clear, useful information for non-financial managers and organizational leaders
- Serve as a key financial advisor to the organization’s finance leadership and advisory committees
- Provide financial analysis, interpretation, variance reporting, and recommendations to support effective decision-making
Oversee reporting, budgeting, and audits
- Supervise the preparation of financial statements, management reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
- Maintain strong relationships with independent CPA auditors and oversee the audit process
- Conduct or assist with internal audits and identify opportunities to strengthen fiscal procedures and controls
- Monitor financial performance across operating units and provide recommendations for operational and fiscal improvements
Support the financial health of the organization
- Work with field units to identify and resolve accounting issues and strengthen financial practices
- Partner with internal departments on capital project funding and reserve management
- Oversee allocation schedules and other financial processes supporting the annual budget
- Review financial performance at each field unit annually, with additional travel as needed to address financial matters
Your areas of knowledge and expertise:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field; MBA preferred
- CPA or CMA certification, with current certification required throughout employment
- At least 5 years of managerial accounting and supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and FASB standards
- Nonprofit accounting experience, particularly with large federal grants
- Experience leading accounting and financial operations within a complex organization
- Strong Excel and Word skills; experience with Access and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Shelby and Vivid is beneficial
- The ability to present financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences
Compensation and Benefits: $165,000 annually
