What you should know: Mulberry has partnered with a non-profit to hire a Medical Record Technician to support them team in an interim capacity. Reporting to the Director of Compliance, you will be is responsible for organizing and maintaining Agency medical records systems in direct support of agency programs and clinical staff. This position organizes and maintains open and closed file storage, manages file destruction, fulfills requests for medical records from outside agencies, and responds to subpoenas requesting medical records.
A day in the life:
- Maintain open and closed medical records in an accurate, neat and organized manner using knowledge of current HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 rules and regulations. Work closely with Privacy Officer to determine best practices in establishing procedures and protocols for the work.
- Review and process subpoenas and release of information documents for medical and related records. Review for accuracy, completeness and compliance with confidentiality guidelines; determine appropriate medical records to release; maintain log of records released.
- Manage closed file destruction process. Pull charts to meet agency retention guidelines, analyze and compare chart with electronic chart for eligibility and appropriateness for destruction. Document the destruction of each chart in electronic record.
- Coordinate, assist and train staff who file and retrieve medical records; resolves technical or procedural problems and issues.
- Receive clients in person and by telephone; direct calls and individuals to proper sources; answer inquiries and provide general program information to the public and clients. Communicate with community agencies as appropriate within scope of position, providing information, referrals, etc.
- Maintains agency and clinical form files and supply of new client files. Copies client files as needed.
- Coordinates with staff regarding audit requests, including organizing charts, copying, managing audit activities and tracking or maintaining control of medical records throughout audit process.
- Provide back-up coverage for other Business Services Specialists as needed to maintain business operations and client services.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
- Regular and reliable attendance; timely and professional communication; confidentiality.
Your areas of knowledge and expertise:
- Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or related field
- RHIT certification is highly desired
- Experience in 42CFR is preferred
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
- Must be a self-starter, resourceful and able to work in ambiguity, and a strong communicator
Compensation and Benefits: $22-$25/HR with access to benefits via Mulberry’s employer of record partner.
