What you should know: Mulberry is partnering with our client, a non-profit healthcare organization that focuses on providing mental health services that promote overall well-being. As a Medical Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for assigning routine and complex coding to medical services and diagnoses by reviewing and validating clinical documentation. The ideal candidate is proactive, service-oriented, and confident in remote work while collaborating effectively with onsite teams.  Experience with EHR implementations and auditing of information highly desired!  You must be able to work during standard PST business hours.

A day in the life:

  • Assign ICD, CPT, HCPCS codes to diagnoses and procedures based on thorough review of clinical documentation.
  • Ensure all codes are accurate, properly sequenced, and compliant with government and insurance regulations.
  • Follow up with providers to clarify incomplete or unclear documentation.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to support accurate and complete medical record documentation.
  • Research and analyze complex or unusual cases to determine appropriate code assignment.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure HIPAA compliance in all documentation and communication.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an accredited medical billing and coding program or possess a minimum of two years relevant experience.
  • 2 years of experience navigating Electronic Health Record systems
  • Strong familiarity with medical terminology and its accurate use in clinical documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently in remote work environments
  • National coder certification preferred

Compensation and Benefits: $28-35/HR based on experience with access to benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid sick time per state rules and more. All equipment will be provided.

Background check and drug screen required upon offer of acceptance.
