Benefits and HR Specialist

What you should know: Mulberry has partnered with a local non-profit organization to hire a Benefits and HR Specialist! You will have the opportunity to support open enrollment, and work on larger benefits focused projects during their busy season. This is a special opportunity to contribute to an organization with 124 locations, deeply-rooted in the Portland area and on a mission to support its communities through impactful initiatives and services. Reporting to the HR Director, the ideal candidate will bring a passion for service, a commitment to excellence, and the ability to work in a collaborative and mission-driven environment.
A day in the life:
Benefits Services Responsibilities
- Manage all Leave Administration (FMLA/OFLA/PLO/ADA) policies and processes for parishes, and schools.
- Act as initial contact for all HR and Benefits program inquiries, directing individuals to experts as needed.
- Respond to and resolve employee questions and problems by interpreting benefits policies and processes.
- Resolve benefits claim issues, plan changes, qualified life status changes and appeals.
- Work with the office on all benefits actions.
- Manage the relationship with Reta and BAS (and time bound relationship with Mercer) as primary contact and administrator for all health benefits plans.
- Maintain and foster relationships with vendors to ensure timely and accurate services and communications to ensure delivery of high-quality benefit services.
- Fully participate with the Benefits and HR Project Manager to ensure effective annual Open Enrollment process.
- Cross train with the Benefits and HR Project Manager in all aspects of benefits programs and processes and dissemination of information.
- Assist with ongoing HR Portal updates
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure staffing requests are processed.
- Oversee recruitment processes.
- Prepare offer letters
- Prepare materials to process new hire, status change and termination paperwork and maintain employee files and I-9 documents and perform audits.
- Supervise the Coordinator in her supervision of the Receptionist and producing job postings, staff directory, birthday and seniority lists, etc.
- Manage meetings and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Your areas of knowledge and expertise:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
- 3-5+ years of benefits administration
- Strong communication, analytical skills, and able to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy and confidentiality
